Description:

This is a planning guide and template for researchers - to help them proactively plan how they can integrate patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) into their work. It was designed for the NIHR Blood and Transplant Research Unit (BTRU) in Precision Cellular Therapeutics - that includes a diverse range of researchers working in different themes, disciplines and settings, with varied levels of experience of PPIE.

The aim of the document is to ensure that the BTRU:
- Plans high quality PPIE activities that add value to the research
- Ensures PPIE activities are inclusive and a positive experience for those involved
- Clarifies the purposes of PPIE activities, role and responsibilities
- Manages the budgets and timetables appropriately
- Distributes resources fairly across Work Packages
- Minimises duplication and promotes ‘whole group’ working

Section 1 provides guidance to help researchers/teams think about why, when and how to do PPIE.
Section 2 provides a usable template - with exemplar activities to support thinking and planning.
