This guidance document has been created for researchers who are wishing to carry out patient and public involvement activities in their work. The document provides information on what patient and public involvement is, how it can be incorporated into different stages of the research cycle and guidance on planning and carrying out involvement activities. The guidance specifically addresses patient and public involvement in basic science/lab-based research as well as clinical research, and includes case studies of involvement activities throughout different stages of the research cycle.
