Description:

This research brief summarises findings from a participatory systems mapping process to develop a systems-level understanding of factors influencing young people’s involvement in shaping sexual health policy and services.

This participatory research was carried out by the CONUNDRUM Action group - a research collaboration comprising sexual health stakeholders across Scotland, including young people, government policymakers, NHS health improvement leads and researchers. Involving stakeholders from across the sexual health system, the Action Group developed a causal loop diagram in three stages of participatory online processes. They found that key system factors influencing young people’s involvement include: leadership, prioritisation and resources; governance and collaboration to support youth involvement; workforce readiness and capacity to carry out involvement work; and accessibility, inclusivity and quality of involvement opportunities.
